The Stories

I joined the Force in Toronto, ON, Oct. 30, 1970, and formed with Troop 18, 1970/1971. Graduating on May 17, 1971, receiving the "Distinguished Sharpshooter Award", as the first recruit in the Force to have a perfect score of 300/300. I was also on the Depot Band playing the bugle and was on the dive team. From Depot, I was transferred to Halifax Detachment, May 18, 1971; Antigonish Municipal, Oct. 2, 1972; Truro H.P. Oct. 7, 1974; Truro Detachment, July 1, 1976; Forensic Laboratory Ottawa, Feb/Mar, 1977; Truro FIS, July 10, 1978; Regina FIS, Mar. 15, 1979, promoted to Cpl. Aug. 2, 1979, and awarded the Certificate in Human Justice from Univerisity of Regina, May 18, 1982; Inuvik FIS, Aug. 11, 1983 (NCO i/c); Yarmouth FIS, Aug. 11, 1986; Halifax FIS, Aug. 5, 1994, Awarded the Certificate in General and Advanced Police Studies from CPC, Ottawa, Oct. 9, 1992; Vancouver RFISS, Dec. 31, 1998, promoted to Sgt. Jan. 12, 1999; Halifax CBRN/RFISS, June 22, 2002; Retired April 5, 2005.

Highlights: 34.43 yrs of service, 26 yrs as a Forensic Specialist (6 yrs BSPA, 3 yrs CBRN Responder) completing in excess of 40 training courses since joining the Force. Examined over 3,000 crime scenes and anaylized 75 cases for Bloodstain Pattern Interpretation, presenting evidence at all levels of Court preceedings. I was involved in the Swiss Air 111 disaster, Picton Pig Farm Investigation, Kosova UN mission, and Guatemala Oral Trials Training Project.

I was a Scout Leader for 10 yrs., receiving the 10 yr. clasp, 1987-1997; served on Regina and St. Margaret's Board of Directors, and President of the Inuvik and Yarmouth Curling Clubs. Competed in the Canadian Police Curling for 30 yrs. and was at the Nationals 7 times representing NS 6 times and SK once.I have also received a Certificate for 100 whole blood donations.
