The Stories

Lewis James Wilkinson: Regimental Number 29161

Marital status: Married to Lori Stenmark on the 8 June 1985. Two daughters Kirsten and Kelsey.

First Posting: Constable at Fraser Lake B.C.         Final Posting: Vancouver Drug Squad

I was 20 years old when I was engaged in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Saskatoon Saskatchewan on the 19 July 1971. I proceeded from there to Regina at Depot Division for training. I graduated trading with 31 mates on 31 January 1972 and I was posted to Fraser Lake, B.C. “E” Division. There I performed general duties.

On 1 March 1972 I was transferred from Fraser Lake to Vanderhoof where I worked in uniform performing general duties.
On 14 March 1972 I received a Commanding Officer’s Commendation for helping to apprehend an individual who was firing a rife at members of the Fort St. James detachment. The individual was arrested with no injuries to anyone involved.
On the 20 September 1972 I was transferred from Vanderhoof to Fort Nelson Detachment. There again I worked in uniform performing general duties and helped enforce the Wildlife Act. I enjoyed this posting very much as a young single man.
On 17 January 1974 I was transferred from Fort Nelson to Vancouver Detachment. I only worked a short time here before being moved to Vancouver Drug Enforcement.  I worked with Canada Customs at the Vancouver Airport enforcing the Criminal Code for all aspects of drug offences.  While working in plain clothes I also worked with an integrated task force named C.L.E.U., including the Vancouver City Police tracing the importation of drugs into British Columbia.

Vancouver drug squad was a very satisfying posting and I worked there until I requested my discharge to return home to become a partner in
the family business.
