Story:

At the time of my engagement I was working and living in Regina. I believe that it was the afternoon of the last Thursday of April 1970, not long past my 20th birthday, when I received an urgent phone call from F Division HQ. Could I report to F Div. HQ on Monday next to take the oaths? I was duly sworn early Monday morning and took my leave on the inspector’s order: “Cst. Brown go directly to Depot and report to the orderly room.” I was one of 5 Troop’s earliest arrivals and spent much of day 1 assisting our members find parking, the OR, and the mess hall as they arrived. Prior to joining the Force I had been a member of the Royal Regina Rifle Regiment and had acquired some knowledge of foot drill. I was able to introduce our members to some elementary drill movements. After 7 years service I resigned from the Force and relocated to the Yukon Territory where I made my home for most of the next 38 years and married my wife Elaine Brown (Spink). I had a career primarily with the Yukon Department of Justice and the Yukon Worker’s Compensation Health and Safety Board. I also served in the Canadian Rangers, a component of the Canadian Armed Forces.
