Story:
I was born on July 5, 1940 in Montreal, Quebec and raised in an idyllic community, Isle Bigras, Quebec approximately 30 kilometres north of Montreal. As a teenager, I decided that I would like a career in the RCMP and on January 8, 1960, I was sworn in and posted to “N” Division (Ottawa) for training. My first posting after graduation was Vancouver Town Station. From there, I moved to Richmond Detachment for 1½ years then subsequently into various plain clothes sections of the Force in Vancouver Subdivision.
My final years in the Force were spent in Commercial Crime, in charge of the Market Manipulation Section. During that time, I was selected as one of the first members to attend university on a Commercial Crime one-year program studying basic accounting, securities law, commercial law etc. After completing the one-year program, I continued my studies for two more years at the University of British Columbia and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree.
I retired as a Staff Sergeant with 20 years of service from the RCMP to become the Superintendent of Brokers, Insurance and Real Estate for the Province of British Columbia, a very challenging but rewarding job. I managed a staff of 95, regulated 3 major industries and administered 13 Provincial Acts. Six years later, I joined the Peat Marwick Consulting Group as a partner and after 3½ years, left Peat Marwick to run my own securities consulting practice for many years.
