GEORGE H. CASS Reg. #15603
August 10, 1930 – September 19, 2016
George joined the R.C.M.P. on October 28th, 1948, at the age of 18 and began a career of which he was immensely proud. Early in his service, George was stationed in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, before moving on to Manitoba. While stationed in Selkirk, George received the prestigious R.C.M.P. LSM, Bronze Clasp & Star, Commissioner’s Commendation for Bravery for the capture of a burglar who had just robbed a bank. From there, George moved his family to Stonewall, Emerson, Brandon and Gimli. He retired from the R.C.M.P. in 1973, as Sergeant in charge of the Gimli detachment.
He was also a life member of the R.C.M.P. Veterans’ Association.
After retiring from the R.C.M.P. George then joined Transport Canada in Winnipeg. After 21 years, George retired from Transport Canada as the Regional Director of Security. He kept up many friendships with former R.C.M.P and Transport colleagues, and so enjoyed meeting them several times a week for coffee.
George enjoyed all sports, but hockey was his passion. He loved to skate on the ponds around Hawkesbury as a child and played hockey with the R.C.M.P. league for many years
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 58 years, Frances, his daughter Laurie and son-in-law David, his daughter Lesley, and his two beloved grandchildren, Amy (Alex) and Jordan (Alaina).
