Assistant Commissioner (Retired) Ross A. GRIMMER joined the Force on January 6th, 1966, Vancouver B.C. and retired on January 5th, 2002, Kelowna B.C.
July 10th, 1966 on completion of basic training, including equitation, he was transferred to K Division Alberta where he served in Edmonton, Calgary Banff, Strathmore and Airdrie on General Detachment Duties and Highway Patrol.
May 1975 transferred to Depot Division Regina as a Driver Training Instructor. Promoted to Corporal.
May 1978 returned to K Division Cardston Detachment where he served until July 1981 when he was transferred to Sherwood Park Highway Patrol. Promoted to Sergeant. In 1983 he was transferred from Highway Patrol to Sherwood Park Detachment Operations Support NCO.
November 1984 transferred to K Division HQ Criminal Operations Branch Senior Traffic Accident Reconstructionist and Analyst.
June 1987 appointed as the Division Traffic Officer. Commissioned to the rank of Inspector.
June 1989 transferred to G Division NWT Officer Commanding Iqaluit Subdivision (Eastern Arctic).
June 1991 transferred to E Division B.C. Assistant Officer Kelowna Subdivision.
April 1993 transferred back to G Division HQ Yellowknife, Officer in Charge of Criminal Operations Branch. Promoted to Superintendent. April 1995 appointed Commanding Officer G Division. Promoted to Chief Superintendent.
August 1998 relocated to Sarajevo Bosnia. Appointed Chief of Operations for the International Police Task Force, United Nations Mission Bosnia Herzegovina (UNMIB).
September 1999 transferred to RCMP HQ Ottawa – International Training and Peacekeeping Branch Canadian Regional Training and Support Project (Bosnia). Worked out of Vienna Austria, travelling extensively throughout Albania, Bosnia, Croatia, Macedonia, Romania and Bulgaria.
March 2000 appointed Deputy Commissioner Operations for the United Nations Transitional Mission East Timor (UNTAET). Promoted to Assistant Commissioner (RCMP). Returned to Canada in June 2001.
During his thirty-six year career, Assistant Commissioner GRIMMER served in four Divisions, deployed on two United Nations Missions and one overseas Special Project. Relocated 12 times, and had 13 different and unique career assignments.
