Story:

I was sworn in as a Regular Member of the Force as Regimental Number 22690 at “D” Division Headquarters on July 16, 1962 and transferred to Depot Division via CPR passenger train where I became the senior member of Troop G – 1962/1963. Our Troop was squadded on August 6, 1962 with Members from every Province of Canada not including P.E.I nor Newfoundland. In addition to the standard syllabus of the Force’s training curriculum, our training included 210 hours of equitation and stable management. Following nine months of rigorous regimental training our Troop graduated on April 30, 1963. I was posted to “E” Division directly to Osoyoos Detachment. After two years of service, I applied for and was granted permission to marry my lovely wife, Elizabeth Thompson. Elizabeth and I were married August 29, 1964 with the privilege of a full red serge wedding. We celebrated our 55th marriage anniversary in 2019. After five years plus of service on general duties at Osoyoos Detachment, I was posted to Crime Index Section in Vancouver on July 1, 1968 where I remained until June 30, 1971 when I was transferred to “D” Division with the National Crime Intelligence Unit. I was promoted to Corporal while a Member of NCIS. I remained with this Section until December 31, 1973 when I resigned from the Force to enter the world of Free Enterprise. Business was very good to our family, including our sons, who continue to this day in the Canadian Business World. I joined the R.C.M.P. Veteran’s Association in 1974 and have remained a dedicated Member to this date. I pride myself on being a Member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and will continue that pride to the end of my time.
