Story:

I engaged in the Force , for a five year contract, at age 18, in Winnipeg, MB, on Jan 9th,1952. My training started in Rockcliffe,ON. I finished 2nd (squad 89, then moved to Regina for 2nd part (Squad”K”) where I finished 3rd. At this time the Korean War was on so many volunteered to train in the military police to go to Korea (Canadian Provost Corp). I went to Camp Borden,ON, and became a member of the Canadian Provost Corp, and took their training. The Korean Peace talks started (and continue to this day), so it was not necessary to go to Korea.

I was posted to “F” Division, Yorkton Sub/Div and over the next years stationed at Yorkton City, Yorkton Rural, Melville, Kelvington, Pelly & Kamsack. By 1957 I had five years service, was a 2nd class constable and had $1200 in the bank, and received permission from the O.C. to marry Miss Marjorie Eggleston of Bowsman, MB.

We married in Bowsman, in June 1957, and then lived in Kamsack, Langeburg, Melville, Swift Current, Winnipeg, MB (attended University), Prince Albert , Regina, Ottawa (9 years), and then back to Regina where I retired as an Inspector i/c Federal Operations, in April 1989. (thirty seven and 1/2 years). We have three children – Brent (Heidi), Ottawa,ON ; Mardi-Lynn (Gary) Veinot, Spruce Grove, AB, and Susyn, Regina, SK – four grandchildren, and four great grand children. I was commissioned as an Inspector in 1974. For this service I received the RCMP Long Service & Good Conduct medal with gold clasp.

After retirement, I got involved with RCMP Veterans Association, serving in all of their executive positions, and with the Friends of the RCMP Museum, serving as their Secretary for thirty years. For this service I was awarded the Governor-Generals Sovereign Medal for Volunteers.
