Story: 

Terry H. Swystun joined The Saskatchewan “F” Division of the Veterans Association in Regina as an Associate Member after retirement from Sask. Dept. of Natural Resources in 1993. 

Born in Blaine Lake Sask., attended Public and High School and The University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon.  Commenced employment in 1958 with The Department of Travel and Information at Cypress Hills Provincial Park. 

During the years from 1959 to 1965 with The Dept of Natural Resources, worked as a Towerman/Park and Resource Patrolman in Cypress West Block Ranger Stations and Maple Creek Districts and Park Maintenance Supervisor in Moose Mountain Provincial Park, A Conservation Officer in 1966 and worked until 1970 at Outlook/Cutbank and Regina Districts.  In 1971-1984 carried the duties as park superintendent at Duck Mountain, Cypress Hills and Meadow Lake Provincial Parks.  Promoted to Regional Field Supervisor of the Regina Region in 1985 and to Director Regina Region in 1988 until retirement in 1993.

During the 35 years working and living in the provincial parks of Cypress Hills, Moose Mountain, Duck Mountain, Meadow Lake and the communities of Fort Qu’Appelle, Outlook, Cutbank and Regina has been a rewarding and satisfying experience.

  • In Provincial Parks had a good working relationship at RCMP summer detachments in Duck Mountain and Cypress Hills Provincial Park.
  • Migratory Bird Enforcement, hunting, fishing and trapping patrols and with RCMP detachments.
  • On a voluntary basis assisted with the Historical Collections at the RCMP Centennial Museum and the gift shop
  • In 1998 assisted with the production Mounted Police Tattoo125 and the Re-enactment of the NWMP March West.
  • Committee member for the Annual Game Dinner, a social evening to recognize the long working relationship between Sask. Conservation Officers and the RCMP.
  • Terry is married to a Kipling girl Dorothy Granger, over the years the Swystun’s raised four children, Gordon, Kathleen, Douglas and Lesley.
  • Dorothy’s working career was in nursing in Unity, Balcarres, Arcola, Meadow Lake and the Regina veterans department at the Wascana Rehabilitation Center.
  • Dorothy joined the ladies auxiliary to the RCMP Veterans Association in 2001
  • Dorothy enjoys the friendship, support and fellowship with the Ladies Auxiliary.
  • Terry and Dorothy are life members, Friends of the Mounted Police Heritage Center
  • Participated “The Pillars of the Force” with the Brick along the “Princess Royal Walk” at the RCMP Heritage Center
