Story:
On 1983 May 12, a lone male entered the Guildford TD bank, Surrey, BC and robbed it at gunpoint, obtaining several thousand dollars. The offender departed and Surrey RCMP were advised, resulting in officers being dispatched to the scene. Cpl. Watson, who was some distance away, advised dispatch he would attend the scene in the supervisory capacity and requested all taxi companies be advised. While Cpl. Watson was en route, a taxi approached from the opposite direction. Dispatch broadcasted that the suspect could be in the taxi. Cpl. Watson realigned his police car and gave chase. The taxi stopped in middle of a busy intersection, the cab driver fled, running. The suspect, who matched the description emerged, ran to front of the taxi and disappeared towards a ditch. Police radio traffic were disrupted. Cpl. Watson pulled in behind the taxi and commenced foot pursuit. The suspect was located crouched at the front of the taxi. A fight took place, fortunately the suspect was overpowered and arrested. A stolen loaded 45 cal. automatic and money was located on his person by Cpl. Watson.
